Magang honoured as New Generation Leader for Afric

The Managing Director for Phakalane Estates, Lesang Magang, has been honoured by the African Leadership Network (ALN) as New Generation Leader for Africa for the year 2012.

Each year, the ALN scours the continent in search of a new generation of leadership for Africa. The leaders are those who, despite their relatively young age, have tremendous influence and are uniquely positioned to play a role in taking Africa to a new era of prosperity.

In an interview with Sunday Standard, Magang stated that it is very uplifting to be part of a network of new generation African leaders that are very positive about Africa’s future and, importantly, that are actively reaching out to Africa’s future through the work they are doing as individuals.

Magang highlighted that to be part of the ALN is to be part of a growing movement across the continent that is not only preaching about prosperity in Africa, but is in fact, through their work, dedicating the minds, effort and energy in making prosperity in Africa a reality that every African shares in.

“This is what we are trying to do as a country here in Botswana, as individuals, and now as part of this network. It really is not mine to blow my trumpet here, but to make the connection between what the ALN vision and ours as Phakalane Estates,” he said.

He further stated ALN believes that Africa’s development and prosperity can only be secured by a robust, engaged and proactive leadership that is able to harness opportunities and build meaningful relationships that can turn opportunities into success stories.

Magang added that in terms of ALN membership, the ALN organises regular events that bring together members to network, but also actively explore opportunities for substantive business partnerships among its members. He revealed that there will be an annual gathering in Accra in October this year that brings together over 300 new generation of African business and public sector leaders from over 45 African countries.

“We as Phakalane Estates have a role to play. This is Africa’s time, and this is the time for everyone to roll up their sleeves and make it happen. It all is in our hands, and it is within reach,” said Magang.

Magang pointed out that ALN is set up with the aim of catalyzing change by bringing leaders who will have the most impact on their economies in the next 5-10 years. He added that the nomination process is done by a dedicated team of researchers and a selection committee.

Other ALN honourees include Jonathan Oppenheimer, DeBeers head of the Chairman’s office in South Africa, Kgosi Leruo Molotlegi, Royal Bafokeng Nation king.

Previously, Phakalane Estates was awarded Botswana’s leading resort in 2010, 2008, 2005, 2004 and also International Gold Award for Excellence and Business Prestige.
